Very pale garnet, ever so slightly cloudy. Restrained and elegant nose but reveals lots of depth on close examination, raspberries and cherries on the surface but underneath there are notes of liquorice, tar, Marmite and herbs. Medium(-) body but not at all mean, instead rather smooth and luscious. Intricate and delicate palate follows the nose with an earthiness in the background. Soft tannins and medium acidity, lovely balance. A little pepper on the long finish. Really enjoyed this, suspect it might be a bit bright and forward when younger but a bit of bottle age has really helped it. |
